Networking
Introduction
The DAAS Networking is split up into :
- Physical networking
- Dedicated Uplink to the public internet
- Configured and protected by the DAAS operations team
- Virtual networking
- Public backplane
- Provides public connectivity to virtual servers
- Provides access to Cloud Management Center
- Private backplane
- Provides internal LANs to virtual servers
- Provides Management LANs to manage virtual servers
- Public backplane
How does it work?
Overview

Public Networking
The DAAS solutions offers public IP addresses and connectivity to virtual machines running on your dedicated cloud. This public interface is shielded by using a firewall solution, allowing you to set up the same protection as in traditional hosting.
Private Networking
The DAAS private networks are completely separated from the public internet, allowing you to create a network between your virtual servers without having to worry about protecting it from outside attacks.
There are several use-cases for these private networks, but we highlight a few below.
Private LAN's
Private LAN's can be defined between virtual servers in order to let them communicate with each other privately. This can be useful for example when you have a public facing web server that is connecting to database server over a private interface. Typically the web server would have a public (more security risks) and private interface while the database server only has a private interface (less security risks).
Management Network
Private LAN's are also used by the DAAS solution internally to allow the monitoring and management services to run without interrupting the normal working of the server.
Maintenance Network
The DAAS solutions allows you to bring live a copy or previous snapshots of your virtual server in a 'sandbox' mode. This means it is shielded from your production servers, but can be used to run routine integrity checks or to test a new software patch without interrupting the live server operations. Typically a private LAN would be used to connect these 'Maintenance' machines.
