Virtual infrastructure
Introduction
On top of your [private cloud] runs the virtual infrastructure. This can be specialised appliances such as firewalls and loadbalancers or standard Linux or Windows servers that are hosting your application.
In this section we will focus on the benefits of having a DAAS virtual infrastructure.
Benefits
Rapid Deployment
The DAAS solutions allows you to bring live additional servers within minutes for maximal efficiency. Losing less times in racking up servers, installing and OS and installing the application means you will be able to free up time to focus on your core application.
Golden Images
Using golden images you can define a template machine that you can use to build a new server or desktop. For example you could have a standard application server ready so that no additional software needs to be installed after deploying.
This will not only save a lot of time in creating new instances, but will also allow you to cut back on storage costs, as is explained in the next paragraph.
Thin Provisioning
Our advanced cloning technology allows you to bring live additional instances of one golden image without consuming additional storage. This is because we will only store any differences compared to original.
This will not only optimize your storage usage but will also allow for more efficient caching of blocks on our Solid State Disks (SSD's) and thus greatly improve the performance.
On-demand Scaling
Scale your servers as demand goes. Increase your server capacity with just a few click and after a reboot you will have increased storage, RAM or CPU. Avoid having to experience lengthy downtime while the server is taken from the rack, opened up, additional RAM is added and the server is placed back.
Virtual Networks
Your virtual machines can be connected to virtual networks that have increased security over a physical back-end network.
These private networks allow you for example to connect your webservers to one back-end database that can not be accessed from the public network.
